HORSE RIDGE        

  • Horse SW: A short 5min hike out to the LZ from the parking area. Then a gradual 200’ slope, with clearings at 50’ 100’ 200 which sits @4600. Morning training site in the summers, with possible thermal or soaring flights when there is W, SW flows, this occurs more in the winter months. The open slope faces W, SW and the main ridge line is southerly.

  • Acceptable Flying Conditions:

    • W, SW winds 0-15mph

    • All launches are below ridge top, it is advisable to check wind speed and direction at the top of the ridge prior to any launch.

    • Trees surrounding the upper launch

    • Outside of our cleared areas there is a lot of sage brush, and the occasional rock.

    • A couple dead trees

 

  • Landing Zone:

    • Big open clearing at the base

 

  • Vehicular Parking

    • The parking area at this site is very small there is one the left for low clearance and a bigger clearing on the left for Trucks and SUV’s

    • Please stay off the sage brush and carry a shovel and fire extinguisher.

  • Directions:

    • Take HWY 20 E out of Bend just as you drop down the back of horse butte,

    • Left at Fort Rock rd, is a dirt road, marked by a big pile of cinder rocks off 20

    • Stay right onto Ford rd and keep going right to follow Ford rd until you come to a pull off marked by a windsock on the rights.

    • Park in one of pull offs
